Share Your Voice: Unique Holiday Traditions

Unique Holiday Traditions

Submit Your Story for an upcoming She Explores Podcast Episode!

We’re on the lookout for not-so-traditional holiday traditions! In the spirit of honoring the many ways of moving through now until the beginning of the new year, we want to know: do you and yours celebrate with a not-so-traditional holiday activity? Maybe it’s a sunrise hike, surf, or watercolor painting practice. Maybe you eat homemade enchiladas or takeout pizza. Do you opt-out of celebration or acknowledgment? Do you travel far from home? Do you practice a different religion than what dominates the Hallmark section? We want to celebrate it, and you.

Do you have a story of a unique holiday tradition? Anything goes.

Here are some question prompts to get you thinking:

  • Share your unique holiday tradition.
  • What makes your “tradition” not-so-traditional? When did it start? How do you share it with others, or is it just for you?
  • How do we benefit ourselves (and others) by thinking outside the box when it comes to this time of year?
  • Has there been a catalyst in your life that caused you to rethink how you spend the holidays?
  • In what ways do you fold the outdoors into your traditions?

Please submit a 1-3 minute (MAX) voice memo below or write your thoughts (Gale, our host, will read) for possible inclusion in the episode. Note, this isn’t an application for an interview — it’s a stand-alone story that may or may not be featured in the final edit. Here’s an example of an episode from last year that includes voice submissions so you can hear how you might sound.

First names will be used within the body of the episode, full names (as requested) will be listed at the end and linked in show notes. We may not be able to include all the submissions, but will listen to each and every one!

Submission closes EOD Friday, November 12th

Note: By submitting a voice memo or written submission, you’re giving She-Explores.com and She Explores podcast permission to publish and/or lightly edit your voice and words in part or entirety.

Recording Tips: As tricky as it is to do, try to forget about the fact that you’re recording. Hold your phone/microphone away from your mouth. Talk like you’re telling a story to a friend. Listen back and forgive yourself the sound of your own voice – you’re the only one who feels that way about it <3
