There’s a lot happening in honor of International Women’s Day (March 8) and Women’s History Month this year within the outdoor community. And although we’re missing physical gatherings and traveling to film festivals and conferences, the biggest perk of events going virtual this year is that you can attend from anywhere. Sign us up for everything, please! These are the virtual events we’ll be attending (and hosting!) from our homes around the world:
It’s been a tumultuous year, but our friends at NMLFF are still pushing onward and upward, and they’re hoping to bring a small slice of joy to their community at their 6th Annual Flagship Festival. Over 4 days, over 40 films will be screened, and they’ve got 4 rockin’ panel discussions, 3 dope presentations, 2 virtual yoga sessions, 1 body-positive movement workout, 1 live podcast, and endless stoke in their schedule this year.

Teresa Baker has teamed up with JAM Collective & Ravel Media to present a virtual summit for women of the outdoor industry to connect and learn from one another. This three-day event will include workshops, panels, and keynotes ( Intersectional Environmentalist, Kristy Drutman, Cindy Villaseñor, Cristal Cisneros, Jenny Bruso, and Dr. Carolyn Finney), and CEO roundtable discussions with 20 industry leaders. It’ll even be kicked off with a welcoming message by Rep. Deb Haaland!
The summit will be geared towards cis and trans women, as well as people who experience gender discrimination in their outdoor professional and personal lives. It welcomes all people who are comfortable in a space that centers the experiences of women. All will be streamed live via StreamYard on YouTube, and supported by ASL translators. If you can’t catch it, the event will live on forever on YouTube and highlights will be shared on a special episode of She Explores.
This event is FREE thanks to the sponsorship of Backcountry, with support from Merrell, Outdoor Research, Smartwool, Patagonia, and Arc’teryx. All additional proceeds go to The Cairn Project, which supports girls and women outdoor programs across the U.S. through microgrants.
Presented by Life Time, Her Summit is a virtual women’s retreat focused on cycling, running, and getting comfortable with the uncomfortable. This event is open to all female-identifying athletes who are interested in learning more about a new sport or outdoor activity, along with endurance and outdoor veterans to hone their skills and get expert advice from top leaders. Days include fitness sessions, keynote speeches, panel discussions and breakout sessions for personal interest on topics like nutrition, gear mechanics, pregnancy, menopause and body acceptance, training tips, injury prevention, and others.
