Grand Targhee

Grand Targhee

Alta, Wyoming

Photos and Text by Stephanie Baker

Grand Targhee is my favorite place to ski in the winter, and a beautiful place to hike and admire wildflowers in the summer. There are amazing views of the “Idaho side” of the tallest peaks of the Tetons visible from the top Fred’s Mountain (Grand Targhee’s tallest peak at 9,862 ft) year round.

Grand Targhee is located in on the western slope of the Tetons Alta, Wyoming – just over the Idaho border and accessible only through Teton Valley, Idaho. Located in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, Grand Targhee averages over 500 inches of snow per year. It is early October as I write this, and they already have 6 inches at the top. Hiking season has ended there already, but ski season starts next month!
